What is a SME?

The term "SME" stands for "Subject Matter Expert." That's a fancy way of saying someone knows a lot about a particular thing, like how you're becoming a little expert on ninjas, race cars, and soccer!

Imagine if you're playing a video game about ninjas, and you're stuck on a level. You might ask a friend who has already finished the game for help because they're an expert - they know a lot about how to play that game. In that case, your friend is a Subject Matter Expert, or SME, for that ninja video game.

In the grown-up world, an SME could be someone who knows a lot about something like project management, rocket ships, or even how to cook the best pancakes! We often ask SMEs for their advice when we're working on a project that involves something they know a lot about.

So to put it simply, an SME is someone who is really, really good at something and knows a lot about it.
