What is the difference between Project Management and Product Management?
Project management is like building a LEGO rocket ship. You have your pieces (resources), your instructions (the plan), and a picture of what it should look like when you're done (the goal). The building process (the project) has a clear start and end. Once the rocket ship is built, the project is done.
Now imagine you want to make and sell a LEGO rocket ship design to other kids who love rockets. You need to figure out what kids would like about your rocket ship (market research), how to make it even cooler (development), and how to let everyone know how awesome it is (marketing). This is like product management. It doesn't have a clear end because you want to keep improving your rocket ship and ensure kids still like it.
So the key difference is that project management is about managing a process with a clear start and end to create something, while product management is about managing a product's lifecycle from conception, development, and sales to user feedback and improvements.
In other words, building our LEGO rocket ship is a project. Making it the best rocket ship for all the kids out there and keeping it that way is a product.
